Starting the Game Dev Blog
Hello and welcome to Z's Game Dev Blog series!
This is Zawayix, better known as Z. I'm the head developer and writer at RID games. I'm starting up this blog series for a number of reasons:
To keep my mind on track while I work on game dev. While I'm generally decent at keeping a steady pace while developing, I'm not always as good as I would like to be. I'm hoping regular updates will keep me on track for a steady development schedule.
To help future developers. While there is a lot of good material on game dev on the internet, there seems to be less material specifically covering pen and paper RPGs. Since I mostly write pen and paper RPGs, this can sometimes make things difficult. There tends to be some obstacles in developing pen and paper RPGs that you don't get in other forms of game development.
To teach myself. I once heard it said that we learn 10% of what we read, 20% of what we write, and 80% of what we teach. I don't believe these are hard numbers by any means, but I do know that when I am teaching a subject it just seems to click better than if I'm only trying to understand it for myself. I have no idea why this happens, but I know that it does.
So, at least until the release of the Incoming Transmission Quick Start, I'm going to be making regular posts talking about various game design aspects of pen and paper RPGs. I'm planning on covering everything from engines and mechanics, to settings and world building, to the minutia of designing gear.
See you all in the next post!
